This is Logan. He was Diagnosed with non-Verbal ASD at two and a half years old. He was on the waitlist for the OAP program for no more than 3 years.
He has seen a development pediatrician and a Speech Pathologist. It has not been an easy ride. Logan has always Head butted or hit himself (also known as SIB) out of frustration every day, to the point of ER visits and requires to wear a helmet to prevent any injuries to his head. Which requires a Behaviour Specialist. Which now, i dont know if or when he will get that help. Redirection helps, but not all the time.
The lack of support for help for him was not easy and with the changes to the OAP is not looking good.
Others , including myself were happier on the waitlist then i am waiting to be bought out for paying for services once covered under OHIP. Lets not forget first come/first served basis this now requires.
I hope you find it in your heart to help us ASD parents and we trust you do the right thing.
