Our son Jase has been receiving IBI since October 2017. Prior to behaviour therapy, we have participated in any learning opportunities to assist Jase to communicate and comprehend the world around him. We even delayed his Jk school year because he didn’t have any washroom skills, communication was extremely limited and he didn’t have the ability to understand what the teacher was presenting in learning.
I have had to forfeit my career to be available for anything Jase needed. Upon starting SK in September 2017 .. Jase would attend school full time but it came with a lot of difficulty and minimal - zero learning.
Since IBI, Jase is now attending Grade 1, 2x week (with a therapist) and his learning is happening at warp speed!!!!! He is on the cusp of learning to read and start basic math. He is now interested in playing with kids in class and has slightly bonded with his teacher and EA. The gap between Jase and his peers is starting to close, but make no mistake, that is because IBI is there to assist/direct his learning situation.
We know we are about to have a MAJOR regression in learning because of the change to the OAP. We can not afford to pick up the cost for our sons therapy and all of the amazing skills he has shown us.
Our son has a REAL opportunity to become a functioning member of society as an adult but we can’t sustain his learning and the cost of living. We live in rural Northern Ontario and have been abondoned by the Ontario government for services. Even with one provider attempting to turn private .. the waitlist will be atrocious and leaves us hopeless.
