Jack is a beautiful, funny and smart 4 year old boy. He is non-verbal with limited communication abilities. He has a restricted diet of foods that you can count on one hand. Jack is not toilet trained and is unable dress himself or achieve any independence of self care.
Jack has been on the OAP wait list since he was diagnosed at 18 months old. Jack would have been eligible to receive life changing intensive therapy in November 2018. However, because of the OAP wait list freeze; Jack's spot on the wait list was indefinitely paused. The Conservative Government states that the wait list was paused because of a lack of funding, not to artificially increase the wait list. Approximately 3 weeks after the Feb 6th announcement by the Conservative Government, Jack finally got the call that he was eligible for services. He was finally eligible for services after it was announced that a "bankrupted" program was out of money. Jack has waited over two years for therapy, and although it was a long wait, it was something that was worth waiting for. Although we are happy that our son will now receive at least 3 months of science based treatment, we are upset that he could have potentially received 4 or 5 additional months had the wait list not been paused. The light at the end of our tunnel is now tentatively open, but the walls are slowly closing in and in 3 months it will be dark again.
