Our son is now 11 years old. He was diagnosed ADHD, ODD, OCD, behaviour/mood disorder at age 8 and diagnosed ASD (severe autistic symptoms without an intellectual deficiency) and a delay in working memory and processing speed at age 9. We were late getting a diagnosis as we didn't have a family dr at the time. From walk in doctors to pediatricians and back again with no answers.
We are currently on the waitlist for intense behaviour treatment with CCR and have been for over 2 years. Our son has become increasingly violent and aggressive the older he gets. We've been through other intervention programs with no success. We need this treatment for our son. We cannot afford this treatment on our own. The changes to the OAP are going to let my son slip through the cracks just like he did trying to get a proper diagnosis when he was younger.
Unfortunately the new OAP doesn't benefit older children and doesn't benefit children of working class families. How is this fair to our son? How is this fair to his siblings? (Its not easy for them)He didn't choose this, he needed this therapy years ago! I will continue to advocate for my son for the rest of my life. I will not give up!!
