Amari - 12 years old

My son Amari is an awesome kid and before he was diagnosed with ASD our family really struggle with him at school. Once diagnosed we had in place the support from the school, government, and our community. We could not have done this without all three. Even still we struggle paycheck to paycheck so that we can get continue getting him the support he needs. Please don't make these changes to OAP as this will make our struggle even harder and quite possibly reverse all the good we've accomplished with the support. Thank you Robert Wynter robert.wynter.dc@gmail.com

John - 3 years old

My wonderful son John is three years old. He's very affectionate and has the best laugh. He loves Thomas the Tank Engine, and learning about colours, numbers, and the alphabet. When John was 18 months we realized that he did not experience the typical "language explosion" and also did not engage in joint attention (pointing). We started private SLP, and heard many differing opinions about what was happening developmentally with our son. A few months after his second birthday, John was diagnosed with ASD. At first we were emotional about his diagnosis, but we now embrace it. ...

Caleb - 7 years old

My 7 year old son Caleb has been in ABA therapy for the past 4 years. We were fortunate to acquire private funding for the first 2 years and received government funding for the past two years. ABA therapy has made a huge difference in Caleb's life. Therapy has helped him to have meaningful conversations, be able to print legibly, play with his little sister, have more gross motor control and coordination, and get dressed independently. He started at 20 hours a week but as he made gains over the years only needs 2 hours a week to practice turn ...

Harrison Wassell - 3 years old

Harrison is one awesome little kid. His smile can brighten a room and he is SO expressive with his facial expressions. His favourite game is hide and seek, and he loves Halloween and ghosts. When Harrison was about 6 months I noticed he was a little different than other kids his age. He would not sleep, and he did not like to be put down. Fortunately a friend of mine introduced me to baby wearing and it got us through. As Harrison continued to grow, I noticed the differences between Harrison and other kids became more and more apparent. He ...

Kameron - 5 years old

Kameron is a brilliant struggling child. He was diagnosed late with moderate to severe Autism spectrum disorder. Kameron has not received any services so far. I was okay with waiting for two years for proper services. I have worked very hard with Kameron over the past year with routine and understanding his quirks. Kameron is verbal/Non -verbal. Kameron does not talk about why he is upset. 70% of the time Kameron speaks so quietly he is not understood. When Kameron has a meltdown he transforms into a T-Rex to help cope with how scary the world can be. Please help ...

Logan Moore - 7 years old

This is Logan Moore our 7 year old son. He is currently obtaining phrase speech, learning how to use the washroom and function in a school setting with teachers and peers. He has come such an incredible long way in 18 months of service. He was unable to make eye contact, non verbal and and lacking any social skills. His growth has changed his life. Losing this funding and the ability to have 1:1 ABA will cause him to regress. We fear for his future without the proper therapy. Being transitioned into school will not help him in anyway. It ...

William and Samuel

William and Samuel are both on the Autism Spectrum. They are both extremely bright children. They struggle in the areas of sensory integration and emotional regulation which means meltdowns are frequent. They have spent 2 years on the waitlist for service. During that time they have accessed occupational and speech therapies, social skills groups and counseling. My husband and I have taken workshops and parenting classes to make sure we have the tools to best manage their needs and behaviours. We have gone heavily into debt paying for those ...
